Parent Teacher Organization

Missions Statement

The Parent/Teacher Organization Board seeks to continue the endeavors of past PTO Boards in improving the overall educational experience for our students. The measure of the success of the Fairfield PTO is dependent upon the willingness of parents and teachers to become involved. A wide array of volunteer opportunities are available and parent participation is both needed and encouraged to reach our goals.

What Does the P.T.O. Do?

The Fairfield PTO Supports: Class Trips; sports uniforms; teacher’s supplies; flowers for graduation; and sports equipment.

How you can help: Attend a monthly meeting, if you can’t attend, then call or email suggestions and ideas; share a special talent with students; and volunteer for an event!

PTO meetings will be held monthly. We understand that it is hard for all who wish to attend to either come after school for a 3:00 p.m. meeting or in the evening for a 7:00 p.m. meeting ~ so this year we would like to hear from you as to what time works best for you. Please e-mail Renae Masse at masse83@comcast.net. If we have enough interest we are willing to host two monthly meetings to accommodate those who wish to participate.

PTO Update:

The PTO met on 2/2 to discuss the organization of the Town Meeting Luncheon.

Carol Reed and Meg Marshall will be taking care of getting the main dish donations and we are asking room parents to contact other parents in their child(ren) classroom(s) for the following:

We are looking for volunteers to work 7-9 (coffee/donuts, ticket sales), 9-11(set-up/coffee/ticket sales), 11-1(serving lunch), 1-3(clean up)

Grades Pre-K, K, 1, 2/3, 6, 7, we are asking for salad/dressing donations. We need approximately 30-32 bags of salad, and enough dressing for about 125 servings.

Grades 4/5, Desserts

Grade 8, babysitting (donations from parents for their 8th grade field trip)

We will be meeting again on 2/23 at 5:30 in the school library to make sure we are all set. The Luncheon is on Tuesday 3/6.

Fairfield PTO Newsletter

Winter 2012

We have been trying very hard to figure out a way to get more parents and teachers to come to our PTO meetings.  We have been alternating meeting times every other month to no avail. There are a select few of us that attend regularly and have not seen any new faces in quite a while. While we have a great number of volunteers that help at functions already in place, what we really need are active meeting members, new ideas, and new interest. All that we do, and are trying to do is for our children and our school.

While we understand that people have busy schedules, I would like to remind you that there is a vested interest in keeping the PTO alive. My hope is that we can come up with more activities and fundraisers so that we can enrich the programs we have in place and help advance our technology. The money we raise helps reduce field trip costs to the Flynn for our students and we contribute to several programs in the school that benefit our children.

Please, try to commit to coming to a meeting, or 2, or 3 throughout the year, or contacting us if you have any ideas or suggestions. This organization cannot work without the involvement of the Parents and Teachers.

I sincerely thank all of you that are committed!!

Happy New Year!!! Erica Connell

Ideas for 2012

This year we have a few new fundraising ideas in mind. In the spring we hope to start a new annual pancake breakfast, focused around our sugaring season. We are also hoping to be able to start a PTO pumpkin patch, and to sell pumpkins at and around the annual Harvest Dinner. Another idea is an Annual Luminary Walk near the end of the school year.

I also have talked about sponsoring a Native Perennial Garden. My goal with the garden is for it to be used for the younger outdoor classroom members to learn about birds, butterflies, bees, worms, cycles of life and micro ecosystems. This will also give students a chance to learn about invasive species and the affect they have on our native environment.

I would also like to bring back Popcorn Friday; kids send in a quarter and on a Friday once a month get popcorn delivered to their classrooms.

I am also hoping that we can start an annual equipment exchange/sale, to help find new homes for outgrown and lightly used sports equipment.

These are all areas of discussion at our meetings and we need Parents and Teachers to help us make them happen.

If you are interested in any of these projects please come to a meeting.

Thanks to Principal, Jennifer Wood who supports us and attends as many meetings as she humanly can!!!
