March 9, 2011 Dear Parents and Families,
I didn’t have the opportunity to write during our short time back from break last week. I hope everyone enjoyed a restful winter vacation! With Monday’s snow day, we are easing back into our routine slowly but surely at FCS.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Jump Rope for Heart event last Friday. With Mrs. C-H’s outstanding organization, the kids had a wonderful time. With your generous donations, Fairfield Center School raised over $2000 for the American Heart Association. The 8th grade St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the American Legion was also a successful fundraiser for their big white water rafting field trip in May.
This month, the middle school will begin their sugaring unit in earnest. Mr. Baxter and I will be taking kids out to tap trees this month. The middle school enrichment group will officially enter their website, www.vermontsugaring.com, in the CyberFair competition this week. They have been editing their pages to “finalize” the site for entry. Kudos to Mrs. Tully, Mr. Pigeon, Ms. Scott, and our webmaster, Greg Titcomb, for their outstanding facilitation of learning.
Parent-teacher conferences will take place next Wednesday, March 16th after school, and during the day on Friday, March 18th. There is no school for students on March 18th. Individual NECAP reports for students in grades 3-8 will be handed out to parents during conferences. If you have any questions about these reports, please speak to your child’s teacher, or feel free to contact me as well.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wood
